How to choose a roofer in Wellington
Roofing work that is part of Restricted Building Work under a building consent must be done or supervised by an LBP with a Roofing licence. Many reroofs with comparable materials can be done without a consent, so ask your council and your roofer which applies. Membership of the Roofing Association of New Zealand (RANZ) is a useful extra signal. Check the LBP Roofing register.
- Ask whether your job needs a building consent and, if it does, check the roofer holds an LBP Roofing licence.
- Ask which material, steel grade and fixings they will use for your exposure zone, and confirm the manufacturer's warranty applies at your address.
- Check the quote covers removal and disposal of the old roof, new underlay, flashings, spouting and scaffolding.
- Ask how they will handle rotten framing found once the roof is stripped, and at what rate.
- Ask for proof of public liability insurance and their height-safety plan.
Get at least two written quotes for the same job, and read recent Google reviews rather than relying on the star rating alone. A listing here is not a recommendation: “Listed” businesses have not yet been checked by LocalsBest.
