What changes the price
- The number of samples drives the cost. Each suspect material needs its own sample.
- Surveys for renovation or demolition are more thorough, and cost more, than a management survey.
- Travel outside the provider's area usually costs extra.
- Removal is separate from testing; if a result is positive, request a separate specialist removal quote and check current WorkSafe guidance for the job.
Getting a fair quote
- Ask whether samples go to an IANZ-accredited laboratory, and how long results take.
- For a renovation or demolition, ask for a refurbishment or demolition survey, not just one sample.
- Ask what the call-out fee covers, and what each extra sample costs.
- If asbestos is found, check the remover on the WorkSafe licence holder register before you hire them.
