What changes the price

  • Access is the biggest variable. A tree that must be taken down in sections over a house costs far more than one that can be felled.
  • Ask whether green waste removal and stump grinding are included.
  • Protected trees may need a council consent and an arborist report before work starts.
  • Trees near power lines may need the lines company involved.

Getting a fair quote

  1. Check with your council whether the tree is protected before any work. Some notable or heritage trees need a resource consent to prune or remove.
  2. Ask whether the quote includes removing green waste and grinding the stump.
  3. Ask about their qualifications, such as a New Zealand Certificate in Arboriculture, and their public liability insurance.
  4. For trees near power lines, ask whether the lines company needs to be involved.

Where these prices come from

We do not invent price ranges.
