How to choose a roofer in Auckland

Roofing work that is part of Restricted Building Work under a building consent must be done or supervised by an LBP with a Roofing licence. Many reroofs with comparable materials can be done without a consent, so ask your council and your roofer which applies. Membership of the Roofing Association of New Zealand (RANZ) is a useful extra signal. Check the LBP Roofing register.

  1. Ask whether your job needs a building consent and, if it does, check the roofer holds an LBP Roofing licence.
  2. Ask which material, steel grade and fixings they will use for your exposure zone, and confirm the manufacturer's warranty applies at your address.
  3. Check the quote covers removal and disposal of the old roof, new underlay, flashings, spouting and scaffolding.
  4. Ask how they will handle rotten framing found once the roof is stripped, and at what rate.
  5. Ask for proof of public liability insurance and their height-safety plan.

Get at least two written quotes for the same job, and read recent Google reviews rather than relying on the star rating alone. A listing here is not a recommendation: “Listed” businesses have not yet been checked by LocalsBest.
